It is a project for youth. The partner countries are Germany and Lithuania.
In order to prepare the Students Meeting Project Auschwitz of this year the teachers Mrs. Vaida Aleknaviciene and Mrs. Gabriele Hertel as well as the students Deimante Dunauskaite and Jenny Neumann met from 24th -27th March 2014 in the Joniškis Agricultural School in Lithuania. The headmaster Liudas Jonaitis and the other teachers (who are) involved in this project, Mrs Jurate Jarmakaite and Mr. Robertas Valancius, welcomed them and presented their school. The project will take place in Lithuania in May and in Germany in September.
Students from the Vocational School Centre Wurzen of the section Agriculture and students of the Joniškis Agricultural School take part in this project. They are trainees in similar professions: In the project students of the classes of agricultural specialists, gardeners, livestock and dairy farmers und arable farmers will meet and compare their training at the schools and companies. The participants will get to know the schools and companies in Lithuania and Germany. Deimante and Jenny have taken care that the interests of their groups will be a part of the programme and communicate with the whole group on facebook.
Mrs Aleknaviciene and Mrs Hertel have also talked about future projects. They planned a project in 2015 with two vocational schools from Norway and Finland having their focus on agriculture.
The students are also interested in the history and present they have in common. Before the Second World War half of the inhabitants of Joniškis have been Jewish. Today there is not a single Jewish citizen living there. During the project the group will visit both synagogues in Joniškis and the Jewish Museum in Vilnius.
The EU-Kommission supports the project by the program JOUTH IN ACTION and „with friendly permission of the foundation Sparkasse Muldental“ .
